Maisha Bora Better Life Program

Building Stronger Families. Restoring Hope. Creating Opportunity.

Maisha Bora means "Better Life" in Swahili, and that is exactly what this program seeks to provide for vulnerable families across western Kenya.

At RTC Missions, we believe healthcare alone is not enough to break the cycle of poverty. Families also need economic opportunity, emotional support, and practical tools that help them build stable, self-sustaining futures.

The Maisha Bora Better Life Program addresses some of the most difficult challenges facing communities we serve through three key initiatives:

  • Women's Economic Empowerment Program

  • Addiction Recovery Services

  • Support for Widows

Together, these programs help restore dignity, strengthen families, and create pathways toward lasting independence.

â—‰ Women's Economic Empowerment Program

Empowering Women to Transform Their Communities

At RTC Missions, we know from experience that when women gain access to economic opportunities, entire families and communities benefit. While healthcare and food assistance provide immediate relief, lasting change happens when women have the resources and knowledge to create sustainable income and financial independence.

The Women's Economic Empowerment Program helps women build brighter futures through education, entrepreneurship, and income-generating opportunities. By addressing the root causes of poverty, women are empowered to become leaders in their homes, businesses, and communities.

"My sisters in the village used to wonder what would become of us. Thanks to WEP, I am now a professional businesswoman!"

Our empowerment efforts focus on four key areas:

Business education equips participants with the knowledge needed to build and maintain successful enterprises for years to come.

Women's economic empowerment creates lasting change by increasing access to productive resources, meaningful employment, financial decision-making, and economic independence.

An investment in a woman is an investment in her family, her community, and future generations.

â—‰ Addiction Recovery Services

Restoring Lives and Rebuilding Families

Substance abuse and addiction continue to impact individuals and families throughout the communities we serve. The effects often extend beyond the individual, affecting spouses, children, employment, education, and overall community health.

The Maisha Bora Better Life Program provides compassionate support and recovery services designed to help individuals regain control of their lives while rebuilding relationships and restoring hope.

Our recovery approach combines practical support, Christian discipleship, counseling, accountability, and community connection. By addressing both the physical and spiritual aspects of recovery, we help participants pursue lasting transformation.

Through recovery support, individuals are empowered to:

  • Break destructive cycles of addiction

  • Rebuild trust within their families

  • Develop healthy life skills

  • Strengthen their faith and purpose

  • Become productive contributors within their communities

Every restored life creates a ripple effect that strengthens families and improves the well-being of entire villages.

â—‰ Support for Widows

Providing Hope, Stability, and Opportunity

Widows in rural Kenya often face significant economic and social challenges after losing a spouse. Many suddenly become the sole providers for their families while facing limited employment opportunities and financial resources.

The Maisha Bora Better Life Program provides support that helps widows move from vulnerability to stability. Through training, mentorship, financial assistance, and community support, women are equipped with the tools needed to care for their families and build sustainable futures.

Our widow support initiatives help participants:

  • Develop income-producing skills

  • Start and grow small businesses

  • Access financial resources and savings opportunities

  • Build supportive community relationships

  • Provide education and stability for their children

By helping widows achieve greater self-reliance, we strengthen entire households and create opportunities that can impact generations.

A Better Life Starts With Opportunity

The Maisha Bora Better Life Program reflects RTC Missions' commitment to addressing the root causes of poverty while promoting self-reliance, dignity, and hope.

Through women's economic empowerment, addiction recovery, and support for widows, we are helping individuals and families move from survival to stability and from hardship to opportunity.

Every life transformed strengthens a family. Every strengthened family builds a stronger community.
