Serving Communities Through Modern Healthcare and Spiritual Support

RTC Missions exists to expand access to healthcare, strengthen communities, and share the love of Christ throughout Southwestern Kenya by partnering with local leaders, medical professionals, and supporters around the world.

Who We Are

RTC Missions, Inc. is a U.S. faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving healthcare access and serving vulnerable communities in Homa Bay County, Kenya. Through medical outreach, hospital development, Christian discipleship, and humanitarian support, RTC Missions helps provide life-saving care to families who otherwise would have limited or no access to treatment.

RTC Missions operates as a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and works directly alongside RTC Ministries, our Kenyan nonprofit counterpart. Together, these organizations support the growth and operation of the RTC Mission Hospital, a rapidly expanding Level 4 healthcare facility serving thousands of patients throughout the region.

RTC Ministries was founded locally in Kenya to address the growing healthcare crisis affecting rural villages near Lake Victoria. While RTC Missions helps provide international support, fundraising, volunteers, and strategic partnerships, RTC Ministries leads daily operations, community outreach, patient care, discipleship efforts, and long-term sustainability initiatives on the ground in Kenya.

RTC stands for “Righteousness Through Christ,” reflecting the faith-centered mission that guides both organizations in their work to serve others through compassion, dignity, and practical support.

Our Mission

“To unite people in alleviating suffering and despair through Christian discipleship, meeting basic healthcare needs, establishing self-reliance and promoting environmental stewardship even as we grow in God’s Kingdom.”

This mission shapes every aspect of RTC Missions and RTC Ministries, from healthcare access and emergency medical care to maternal health, medical mission teams, clean water initiatives, and sustainable community development. Through a unique partnership between our U.S.-based nonprofit and our Kenyan counterpart, donations move directly from RTC Missions in Waxahachie, Texas to RTC Ministries in Kenya, where they support hospital operations, patient care, equipment, and community outreach. With minimal administrative overhead in either country, your generosity goes where it is needed most, helping provide life-saving care and creating lasting impact for the people we serve.

How It Started

RTC Missions began with one simple act of compassion.

In 2014, Kenyan civil engineer Samwel T. Otieno began helping vulnerable families gain access to healthcare through Kenya’s government insurance program. As healthcare needs continued to grow throughout the region, the ministry evolved beyond insurance assistance and focused on building sustainable, long-term medical care solutions for underserved communities.

Rather than turning people away, Sam founded RTC Ministries in Kenya and opened a small clinic to provide care for underserved families throughout the approximately 200,000 people in the Kasipul sub-county of Homa Bay County. The first maternity ward was built from sheet metal and operated with extremely limited resources, yet it became a lifeline for the surrounding community.

In December 2021, Sam met Dave McSpadden at a Rotary Club meeting in Waxahachie, Texas. Through a shared heart for humanitarian work and Christian service, the two formed RTC Missions, Inc., establishing a U.S.-based nonprofit to help expand the growing ministry and healthcare mission in Kenya.

Soon after, Dave traveled to Kenya and witnessed firsthand the urgent need for improved healthcare access. During that visit, a young couple lost their first child because the hospital lacked an ultrasound machine. That moment became a turning point for the organization. RTC Missions launched a fundraising campaign that provided a new ultrasound machine, helping improve prenatal care and maternal outcomes for families throughout the region.

Since then, RTC Missions and RTC Ministries have helped expand healthcare services through:

Our Statement of Faith

We believe that, in the Bible, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

We believe that Jesus is the eternal, self-existent God and is not a created being. Even though He is fully God, He took upon Himself the form of a man to live and die for our sins. We also believe that He rose from the dead three days after His burial.

We believe that the penalty for man’s sin was paid on the cross of Calvary in Jesus’ death. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). By believing on Jesus Christ and accepting the grace of His shed blood, we receive the gift of eternal life, “not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:9).

Because we love Jesus for His sacrificial death, we want to obey Him as He commands in scripture, “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). Because we are saved, we choose to keep His commandments as the guide for successful living by serving others.
