Medical Mission Trip to Kenya

Most RTC Missions teams participate in a 12-day mission experience that includes travel, ministry opportunities, medical service, and a safari experience.

NOTE: To begin, we require all team members to arrange to be on the same flight for arrival and departure from Nairobi, meaning to depart your country from the same airport, if possible. If you cannot depart from the same airport with your other team members, you must plan on arriving in Nairobi near the same time as the rest of the team. To achieve this requirement, we need you to use the flight schedule all of our team members use. The best way to communicate in person from anywhere in the world to Africa is through “WhatApp” on your phone or computer. The sample itinerary that follows will not be the final that will be provided for confirmed team members for each trip. Thursday: Depart the United States (or country of origin) and meet up with your teammates as you travel on an afternoon flight. Friday: If you depart from Dallas, TX, US, you should arrive in Nairobi on Friday evening (You will lose 8 hours from the U.S. Standard Central Time Zone). Our drivers will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel for check in. Saturday: After breakfast and a brief shopping opportunity in Nairobi, you will travel by community airline to Kisumu, then by van to our RTC Medical Centre Guesthouse. Upon arrival at the RTC Medical Missions Guesthouse you have the opportunity for an evening of rest. Sunday: You will be seeing patients in the Medical Centre and confirm scheduling of patient care and to create Pre-Set schedules of Medical Teamwork. Monday: OR Surgeries Tuesday: OR Surgeries Wednesday: OR Surgeries Thursday: OR Surgeries Friday: Last patient discharge and depart for Safari Hotel. Saturday: Maasai Mara Safari Experience Sunday: Depart your safari lodge and travel to Nairobi for late evening departure from the Kenyatta International Airport Monday: Arrive home

PAYMENT DUE TO RTC MISSIONS, INC.: $1,500 paid to RTC Missions, Inc. for the following: One night stay at hotel upon arrival in Nairobi. All in-country ground transportation (without tips). All meals, lodging, drinks and snacks during your trip. First class safari package including one full day and two nights lodging at one of the largest safari parks in Kenya. You can make your TAX-DEDUCTABLE payment of the entire amount at one time; or send a $300 deposit followed by monthly payments of $300 each until total amount is paid. The $300 deposit is a NON-REFUNDABLE commitment to RTC Missions, Inc., P.O. Box 2072, Waxahachie, TX 75168; or pay by credit card to the RTC Missions PayPal account using the “DONATE” button at the top of the page. Please MARK YOUR PAYMENTS as “Mission Trip”. The typical OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS for a medical missionary team member: Round Trip Plane Ticket prices vary depending on the time of the year, class of service you choose and how far in advance you purchase your ticket. We recommend $100-200 cash needed for when you get to Kenya (will be exchanged for Kenyan Shillings early after arrival.) Additional cash amount of your discretion for souvenirs. (We suggest $100-200. Many vendors take credit cards also.) Additional expenses that may apply to you are, U.S. passport fee, Kenyan eVisa and immunizations, if you choose to take some. Licensed physicians will need to apply for a temporary license with the Ministry of Health  The fee is $200. This temporary license can be obtained through RTC Missions, Inc. Nurses do not require licensing.

Check with your personal doctor, a local travel clinic, or health department as soon as you have chosen to take part in a trip to Kenya to ensure you receive all the proper immunizations and medications at least 2 weeks before you travel. Recommended for trips with RTC Missions, Inc. • Hepatitis A&B (Non-Medical Teams do not require Hep B) • Typhoid • Tetanus (if not current) • ANTI-MALARIAL prescription (Suggested: Malarone, Larium, or Doxycycline) • Broad-spectrum antibiotic such as Cipro in case needed while traveling Recommended immunization by the CDC for travel to Kenya • Yellow Fever (not as prevalent in our area)
