◉ RTC Mission Hospital
A Level 4 Hospital Bringing Hope & Healthcare to Western Kenya
The RTC Mission Hospital began as a small village clinic in Homa Bay County, Kenya. Today, it serves nearly 200,000 people across the Kasipul Sub-County region with advanced healthcare services that were once unavailable locally.
Families travel long distances to receive care at the RTC Mission Hospital because access to quality and compassionate healthcare remains limited throughout much of western Kenya.
The hospital Services now include:
Surgical theaters
Neonatal ICU care
24/7 emergency ambulance service
Digital radiology department
Kidney dialysis center
Laboratory services
24/7 ambulance access
Maternity and delivery care
HIV/AIDS treatment
Malaria treatment
Outpatient and inpatient care
Pharmacy services
The RTC Mission Hospital continues to expand to meet the growing healthcare needs throughout the region.
◉ The Level 5 Expansion Campaign
Help Keep RTC Mission Hospital Open Beyond 2026
The RTC Mission Hospital is entering the most critical expansion phase in its history.
This expansion will allow the RTC Mission Hospital to continue serve nearly 200,000 people throughout the Kasipul Sub-County within, Homa Bay County, while dramatically increasing access to emergency and critical care services in western Kenya.
$700,000
Expansion Goal
Funds raised through this campaign will help complete the following projects required to achieve level 5 status:
Full Emergency Department

A dedicated emergency care facility equipped to handle trauma, critical illness, and urgent medical stabilization.
Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Critical care beds, monitoring equipment, oxygen systems, and infrastructure for severely ill patients requiring intensive medical treatment.
High Dependency Unit (HDU)

An intermediate care unit for patients who require close monitoring and advanced support beyond general inpatient care.
Cancer Treatment Department

Create an oncology treatment department with chemo therapy and infusion therapy capabilities for families who must currently travel long distances to access cancer care. The vast majority of the area have limited to no transportation options.
Medical Equipment & Infrastructure

Critical upgrades to hospital systems, power infrastructure, patient monitoring technology, oxygen delivery systems, life-saving medical equipment, and a large requirement for medicines and supplies for treatments.
Workforce & Clinical Expansion

Additional staffing, physician support, nurse training, and expanded operational capacity required for Level 5 accreditation.
Why This Matters
Recent healthcare reforms in Kenya have already led to the closure or loss of accreditation for thousands of hospitals that could not meet updated requirements or survive delayed government reimbursement systems.
The RTC Mission Hospital successfully passed previous inspections and remains operational today, but reaching Level 5 status is essential for the hospital’s long-term future and the many communities depending on it.
◉ How RTC Missions Began
From a Small Clinic to a Growing Hospital in Kenya
RTC Missions began when Sam Otieno met Dave McSpadden at a Rotary Club meeting in Waxahachie, Texas, in 2021.
Sam had already spent years helping vulnerable families in Kenya access healthcare through government insurance support and a small medical clinic he built near Lake Victoria.
After visiting Kenya in 2022, Dave saw both the urgent need and the incredible work already happening. Together, they formed RTC Missions, Inc., a Christian non-profit dedicated to expanding regional access to compassionate healthcare in Homa Bay County.
Today, the RTC Mission Hospital has grown into a Level 4 hospital serving thousands of families across western Kenya through faith, partnership, and compassionate care.

◉ Stories From the Field ◉
“Seeing the needs of the community firsthand and witnessing the compassion of the RTC team reminded us why healthcare missions matter. The patients, families, and staff we met left a lasting impact on each of us.”

◉ Dr. Abby Lankhorst
Medical Missions Team Surgeon
Multiple teams of physicians and nurses from Texas and Kentucky have traveled to the RTC Mission Hospital to serve alongside Kenyan healthcare providers delivering surgical care, emergency treatment, and patient support.
Many patients traveled long distances because the RTC Mission Hospital was their closest access to advanced medical care.
“The opportunity to be part of the team here and integrate ourselves into what they’ve already established has been phenomenal,” Dr. Lankhorst shared after the trip.
